The Diversity Council for the Push Comedy Theater
Our Mission
Ensuring that everyone in our community has a voice and access to the stage.
Push Comedy Theater is committed to provide sketch and improv-comedy training opportunities to underrepresented communities in the Hampton Roads Area, and to develop new and talented performers and performances with unique and diverse points of view for our stage and beyond.
Therefore, we have created a diversity council that carries out monthly shows to promote inclusion and implements a scholarship program within The Push Comedy Theater.
Target Groups
The scholarship is for People of Color (African-American, Latinx, Asian, Native American,) Women, Over 40, Minority Teens, and/or LGBTQ+ identifying people. The scholarship will be awarded to recipients for our pre-teen, teen, and adult programs
The Details
Scholarships will be awarded to cover all class fees. Applicants may apply for any level class of improv starting with Improv 101 or Sketch 101. Classes should be taken in order Improv 101-501. Students may reapply for the scholarship toward future classes upon completing/passing classes taken. The scholarship is open to all of the diverse groups mentioned above, but priority will be given to applicants with the greatest financial need. Once your application is received and reviewed, you may be contacted for further information or an interview if needed.
Scholarships applications may be submitted at any time, and are typically reviewed 30 days prior to a class beginning.
Thank you to everyone who decides to apply. We look forward to you joining our community of improv and sketch comedy and bringing further growth and diversity to our theatre!
